To the readers of Monkfish books

The spiritual titles that comprise the growing Monkfish list, and found in this online catalogue, share a theme of unity in diversity. But even more, each book in its own way brings timely and fresh perspective on the perennial human condition. Monkfish books inspire new insights and understandings, open and heal the heart, and set free the human spirit.

The readers we had in mind when we began Monkfish in 2002 were devoted spiritual seekers, the type whose passion for the spiritual quest would lead them to read across a dazzling array of traditions: Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Islam, Pagan and more. At the same time, it has always been our intent to publish works of spiritual authenticity for the general public as well as the specialist. Even our more challenging works can be read with a modicum of background information.  Publishing works that join these two readerships guarantees that your experience of a Monkfish book will be a memorable and worthy one. Furthermore, a regular ‘diet’ of Monkfish reading will insure that you maintain a well-rounded, up to date and fresh perspective on all matters spiritual and/or religious.

Whether you are new to Monkfish or a longtime fan of one or more of our authors, we thank you sincerely for your interest in our books.

About Monkfish

Monkfish is an independent press publishing spiritual and literary books from a diverse range of perspectives. Genres include memoirs, wisdom literature, fiction, and scholarly works of thought. Monkfish books appeal to the seasoned or novice seeker as well as to the general public looking for reliable sources on spirituality. Monkfish books are available in bookstores, libraries, universities, and online and are distributed to the trade by Consortium Book Sales and Distribution. Contributors to and authors of Monkfish include Rupert Sheldrake, Terence McKenna, Brad Warner, Graham Hancock, Jacob Needleman, Huston Smith, Elizabeth Cunningham, John Daido Loori, Ralph Abraham and Colin Wilson. Monkfish’s Provenance Editions are reprints of older, and sometimes nearly lost works by distinguished thinkers such as Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Zen Buddhist East/West pioneer D.T. Suzuki, the 1950’s spiritual icon Gerald Heard and H.G Wells.

Monkfish’s eclectic mixture of spirituality books, while dealing with timeless subjects, nearly always shed light on topical concerns, and have been widely discussed and reviewed in newspapers such as New York Times, Washington Post, Kansas City Star, and Atlanta-Journal Constitution; in the publishing trade such as Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Booklist and Kirkus; and in the spirituality media such as Yoga Journal, Spirituality and Health and Beliefnet.

Some of Monkfish’s titles are published in these two series:

PROVENANCE EDITIONS: Older reprints (1900-1950) of distinguished and prescient writings on the subject of religion and human destiny.

MONKFISH MEMOIRS: Memoirs of people whose lives and writings reflect original spiritual truth.
